APC and the APCzone
Legendary reliability with legendary service
American Power Conversions (APC) provides power protection, environmental
control and site monitoring systems that are designed to proactively identify
and correct problems before downtime occurs. Over the years, APC has received
more than 150 awards worldwide for reliability and innovation of solutions -
more than any other UPS manufacturer. APC's solutions are accepted as "best of
breed" across the globe. You deserve the Legendary Reliability and peace of mind
that only APC can provide.
Now combine this top manufacturer with a supplier that is renowned for its
service and added value. 3complete, a highly regarded supplier in the
communications sector, brings you the APCzone, an APC specialist operation that
is fast becoming a preferred source to many organisations in the UK. The APCzone
website is the ideal starting point for anyone wanting to review APC products.
It affords access to a wide range of APC resources and includes details,
pictures and prices for over 250 items. These products can be bought on-line
using our secure purchasing system, or by telephone or fax, and many of the
items are available for next-day delivery.
But this is just the starting point. Our free technical pre-sales assistance can
help you determine the type of equipment you need and the best way of
implementing it. Our close relationship with APC (we are an accredited APC
Authorised Reliability Partner) means that we can provide the very best in
advice and support. And our background in computing and networking enables us to
quickly understand complex environments and suggest appropriate solutions.
Initially, the motivation for using UPS units was to protect the hardware
itself. As more and more data was passed across networks, customers began to
recognise the importance and value of the data on their servers and PCs, and
they started protecting this data as well. As the value of data grew
exponentially, the importance of protecting the availability of the network
reached critical mass. Today, a growing number of customers cannot tolerate any
downtime in their networks.
In 2001, 3complete was an operation that had been selling communications
equipment on-line for a number of years, and formed part of a company that had
started working in communications in 1988. We decided to expand the UPS section
of 3complete to meet the growing requests from our customers. We reviewed the
products and manufacturers available, and chose to partner with APC, the world
leader in this field. Since then, our reputation as an APC supplier has grown
and grown. We now supply to some of the biggest (and indeed the smallest)
companies in the UK.
In the last few years, the value of the data being created, transferred and
stored has continued to multiply. Not only is the quantity of data increasing,
but E-commerce applications are literally transferring, processing and storing
money on the servers we protect with APC equipment. As a result, highly reliable
solutions like APC's Power Array technology are being adopted by
industry-leading global enterprises to ensure E-commerce delivers on its
promise.
From the single home PC user wanting to assure protection from power surges,
right up to the largest enterprise intent on protecting their data assets, APC
has a solution. And through the APCzone, 3complete can provide these solutions
for excellent prices and with the best possible service.
Link to the APCzone now for more details or to review the products available. We
have a configuration tool to help you determine the equipment you need, and
background information about what UPS is and how it works.
In addition to UPS units, the APCzone can supply surge protection devices,
software, cables and accessories, voltage regulators, replacement or add-on
batteries - in fact pretty much everything associated with APC.

APC Products and Solutions from the APCzone
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Uninterruptible Power Supplies provide battery back-up power in the event of a
power supply loss. This can be used to allow equipment to run without mains
power until the supply is restored, or just long enough to allow for transient
outages, and to give enough time for the equipment to shut down in a longer
power cut. This is particularly useful for computer systems, where the UPS unit
can inform the computer that the power has been lost and instruct it (using free
software) to shut down in a controlled way. This safeguards data integrity and
avoids hardware damage.
The APC range of UPSs is possibly the most comprehensive in the world. There are
units designed to meet the needs of the home PC user at one end of the scale,
through to large systems suitable for cabinets or rooms full of equipment at the
other. Some units have been designed to mount in 19" racks with rack-mount
servers or communications equipment. Within the range, there are certain models
that can be fitted with additional battery packs to extend their run time.
There are over 60 individual UPS units in the UK APC range, and the specialists
at the APCzone can help you decide the solution that's right for you.
Management Devices
To increase the flexibility of UPS systems, there is a wide range of optional
equipment. Cards that plug into the UPS to allow management and reporting from
your PC or network can be used, and the range includes devices for environmental
monitoring and multi-system management.
Software
Most APC UPS systems come with free software, called PowerChute, to allow the
UPS to communicate with a PC. This allows the PC to be shut down in a controlled
way if the UPS indicates that power will be lost, helping to protect your
hardware and data. There are various add-ons and special versions of PowerChute
that can be purchased to improve manageability or provide additional
functionality such as shutting down an Oracle database or managing the
controlled shutdown of multiple systems.
Optional and Replacement Batteries for UPS Units
Some UPS units can be enhanced to give longer run times by adding optional
battery packs. These are available either with the UPS at purchase time, or can
be bought later as your requirement grows. Contact us to discuss the extended
run-time versions of UPS units and the optional battery packs required.
As with all battery technology, there is a finite lifetime associated with the
batteries used in APC UPS systems. In most cases, when the battery has reached
the end of its useful life, the UPS will indicate this, and a replacement
battery can be purchased from us. The replacement battery can often be
hot-swapped; that is, fitted without removing the UPS from the system, so no
downtime of the protected equipment will be needed. Replacement batteries start
at around £15 depending on the UPS model, so why throw away a perfectly good UPS
unit just because the battery has failed?
Voltage Regulators
Although most UPS units will condition the power being received by the protected
equipment, there are some circumstances where a UPS is not suitable. For these
cases we have a range of voltage regulators that will clean up a poor mains
supply.
Power Distribution and Intelligent Power Control
This range of devices helps you to set up and control the power. How about a
power distribution unit (power bar) with 15 sockets that can be individually
switched on or off using a web browser. Think how useful that could be in an
unattended server room or remote facility. This is one of several devices
designed to make your life easier. Another allows output from two sources to be
used to power a single device. If the power from one source fails, the other
takes over without the equipment noticing. When used with two independently
supplied UPS units, this can be used to provide redundant power backup to
critical systems.
Accessories
In addition to the primary range of APC products, we can also supply all the
cables, connectors and other accessory products you may need. If you require
associated products that are not part of the APC range, we can usually supply
them.
Environmental Management Systems
A range of hardware and software systems are available that can provide a fully
manageable environment and provide control via a graphical user interface. This
allows local or remote management of systems, and it can be used with
InfrStruXure to provide a complete control and management system, ensuring
power, cooling and humidity control are routed to the areas that need them.
As you can see from this portfolio of solutions, APC offer a comprehensive range
of products for the power management and general infrastructure environments.
And using the APCzone, you can tap into this range in the most convenient way
available.
